English Classes
University trained professionals are in attendance at all times and are responsible for the broad range of learning experiences made available and suited to each child’s needs. The Teaching Program is designed to provide students with an educational experience that will foster growth in learning English as a second language. Our english language program is designed to provide opportunities for new learning experiences by exposing the students to conversational and written English in a formal classroom setting by increasing their knowledge and awareness of North American and Canadian people, customs, and traditions.
The Classroom Teacher Will
- Expect the students to speak English in class at all times
- Constantly evaluate the work
- Provide a dynamic learning approach with debates, group work, oral presentations, and team teaching
- Prepare the students for their city excursions
- Emphasis on grammar exercises and creative writing skills
- Teach Canadian history, local geography
Learning Environment
- Class size limited to 15 students
- All teachers are University Graduates
- 5 hours of English instruction per day
- Morning learning session: Emphasis on grammar exercises and creative writing skills
- Afternoon learning session: Emphasis on conversational skills, Canadian History, and local geography
- Pre-assessment and post-assessment provided
- All students attend a formal graduation ceremony
Cambridge Examination Preparation Courses
Camp Pilgrim offers you high quality Cambridge examination preparation courses. These courses have limited enrolment options which means you will be studying with a dedicated closed group of students focused on achieving a common goal. You will have the opportunity to increase your English ability to a level sufficient for a wide variety of academic purposes.
Scale of English Proficiency
Level 1
- Demonstrates some understanding of written material.
- Simple communication of everyday information.
- Understands questions and is able to ask for information.
- Engages in simple conversations.
Level 2
- Contributes information and ideas in the classroom setting.
- Is able to answer questions on a variety of topics.
- Asks for clarification of information.
- Responds to questions.
- Engages in conversation in small groups.
Level 3
- Interacts comfortably with others in the spoken English language.
- Reads independently.
- Demonstrates a good understanding of written material.
- Answers are complete with several details.
- Communicates well with class and group members.
- Accepts various roles within the class and activity program.
- Uses well developed sentence structures.
- Writes with detail and expresses information in the written language.
Level 4
- Reads independently and effectively
- Written and oral answers demonstrate a thorough knowledge of information.
- Uses the conventions of oral l and written language effectively.
- Participates and communicates well in class.
- Expresses thoughts and opinions naturally.
- Presents points of view in debates and discussions.
- Writes with considerable detail and complexity.
